Subscriber-unit emulation software with internet link introduced / DELEC announces collaboration with INTRACOM

San Francisco, October 2012: One of the highlights at the German intercom specialists DELEC booth is a new interface which opens up oratis intercom systems to smartphones and netbooks. Software from the VCOM product line, provided by US vendor INTRACOM, turns any Android smartphone, iPhone, iPad or any netbook into a mobile subscriber unit!
“This connectivity option makes our oratis intercom systems even more flexible. Remote, external personnel can be integrated easily into a conversation,” says DELEC sales engineer Jürgen Malleck about the co-operation. “Thanks to our new partner INTRACOM, we can provide our customers with the most innovative and up-to-date oratis interfaces on their smart phones.” But that’s not all, the new solution is even more interesting when integrated with a commentary system since it provides reporters with unprecedented mobility.
The new software establishes a bridge over an intranet or the internet to a gateway computer which makes the audio and control connections to the oratis system. A single gateway computer can support up to 64 VCOM subscriber units.
The INTRACOM collaboration was born out of DELEC customers’ desire for virtual subscriber units on standard computer devices. The solution DELEC has now presented is even more comprehensive and innovative.
DELEC is using this year’s AES Convention as a key event for introducing a stack of new products. In addition to the new partnership with INTRACOM these include the new Dante™ interface and cooperation with Audinate, the party-line interface for belt packs from other manufacturers and full-HD video streaming to commentary systems.

About oratis
oratis is a top tier intercom system. It is based on current FPGA technology and offers unique flexibility and future-proofing combined with DELEC’s renowned high reliability.
oratis can be used to create compact intercom systems featuring as few as eight ports to larger installations with more than 4,000 ports accessible simultaneously. The system employs the distributed intelligence principle. This guarantees fast response times even on large systems, while ensuring confidence and security. oratis acts as a fully summing digital audio matrix.
oratis intercom systems include three basic components: one or more matrix frames, various matrix cards, and the subscriber panels connected to them. The quantity and configuration of components are freely definable, enabling the oratis to adapt to a multitude of applications.
Perhaps more fundamentally, all components of an oratis installation are networked using managed Gigabit Ethernet. This means that no extra wiring is needed or multi-core cables. This infrastructure is usually installed as standard in modern buildings. Gigabit Ethernet lines and ordinary Gigabit Ethernet routers and switches are perfect for setting up an oratis system.

About the oratis Commentary System:
The oratis commentary system is based on matrix frames which act as audio hubs and incorporate various slot-in cards. They manage all audio signals required by the commentator and forward the commentary signal to the relevant broadcaster.
The commentator uses a COM3 commentator terminal, which is connected over a Gigabit Ethernet line to a commentary card in the matrix frame. With this strategy, essentially the connections to and from all sources and destinations are extended through the fibre-optic network into the commentary booth. Thus, it is possible to monitor or mix any audio signal immediately at the commentary position.
