OCA Alliance founding member SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP announces OCA specification to be standardized by AES
San Francisco, October 2012: Pro Audio companies including the SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP and the AES Standards section are working on global media networking system control standards. Named AES-X210, the standardization project was begun prior to the AES Convention in San Francisco.
Starting in summer 2011, the OCA Alliance (Open Control Architecture Alliance) developed a non-proprietary specification for a network control protocol which can be used in professional applications. SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP, as one of the eight founding members, is enthusiastic about introducing this free and open control standard into the pro-audio industry. “Our digital audio mixers, routers and intercom systems, just to mention some examples, are highly integrated into our customers’ overall studio environments,” explains Sam de Pauw as the MEDIAGROUP’s representative on the OCA committee. ”Be it in a broadcast station or in a large theater installation – all audio devices have to work together closely today. This new network specification helps systems from different brands to integrate and talk to each other.”
OCA is purely a control standard, it does not transport audio or video content. It is designed to run independently or on top of a content transport protocol such as AVB or Dante™.
In phase 1, the OCA Alliance has specified the control standard which will now, in phase 2, be adopted by independent standards organizations such as the AES. After ratification, the specification will be published as an official open standard. When the final standard is ratified, it will be designated as AES210.

About the OCA Alliance
OCA Alliance is a non-profit corporation formed to secure the standardization of the Open Control Architecture (OCA) as a media networking system control standard for professional applications. The OCA Alliance’s purpose is to actively promote the adoption and standardization of Open Control Architecture (OCA) as a media networking system control standard through marketing, education and training and to develop future standards and other documents that augment, enhance or extend the primary OCA standard for the purposes of enabling and promoting increased interoperability and reliability for a variety of transport standards. The founding members of the Alliance include Bosch Communications Systems, d&b audiotechnik, Duran Audio, Loud Technologies. Media Technology Systems, PreSonus, SALZBRENNER STAGETEC MEDIAGROUP, TC Group and Yamaha Commercial Audio.
